I am the exact opposite of you when it comes to empathy, it comes extremely naturally to me. So I was really intrigued to read your post and get another perspective.

I must admit, I still did not understand where you coming from (particularly with regards to your relationship) until you said this,

“we risk creating a connection, an emotional two-way street we cannot close, that forces us to feel someone else’s pain and suffering.”


I get it! I believe you are changed when you understand someone’s suffering. It burst your bubble and makes the possibility of imminent pain and sadness all too real to you.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss! But I don’t know if it is ethical to remain ignorant?
